JENNY REGAN

I was born on "the Copperbelt", Zambia, and grew up on the family farm on the banks of the Kafue River. As a young child I could always be found with a pencil and paper sketching.
In 2004 I started venturing into the wildlife areas of Botswana and it was here that I re-found my inspiration, and started painting again in earnest. My artwork springs from a lifelong love with wildlife. My love and depth of feeling for Africa and the wildlife within cannot be measured, and it is through my paintings that I try to express these deep feelings to the viewer. I am also deeply concerned about the impact that we as a species are having on our planet and I try to enlighten people about our animals in their wild places through my artwork.
I am a self-taught artist which is just another way of saying that I have had no formal art training or accreditations. But this also gives no credit to the many different people who have helped me along my art journey, who have provided me with a wealth of valuable information to develop my own personal style and technique.
I have had a few solo exhibitions in Botswana, and have sold well, with many of my paintings ending up overseas. My work has been exhibited at:
Hobby Horse Gallery, Swakopmund, Namibia
African Easel, Kasane, Botswana
Peaches, Gaborone Craft Market
Decrovision, Broadacres Shopping Centre
Art D'Afrique, Sandton Mall
What are my future plans – well, I just want to paint my "best painting ever", and every painting I am busy on is the one, and then when I am finished with that one I know that it is the next one. I love the build up to a new painting, the sketching as the idea takes form then putting this on the canvas and starting the painting. During this stage I can't think about anything else, it is as if the painting takes over.
